Imagine taking your granny for a constitutional around some formal gardens, maybe before a cup of tea and a scone.
Some point of departure from the baseline, often geographic or weather-related. Getting a good view, or having a bit of snow or rain to contend with. Some shortcuts also fall into this category.
Like 1 but more so - storms, cliffs, river crossings. Events that are difficult to view dispassionately.
You feel as if you are being tested. There's no real doubt that you're up to it, but it can feel like hard work. Sense of achievement on completion.
You are definitely being tested. Conversation tends to stop as you focus on the immediate issues. It is normal to question whos idea it was to do this anyway. Combination of acheivement and wonder on completion.
There is a sustained period where you think you're not going to make it. Euphoria on completion, though hysteria and PTSD are also possible.

is on my Christmas present list.
The sandfly repellants Marek and Phil were using didn't seem to work that much better than the control (me). I found that long sleeves, long pants, fingerless gloves and something around your neck minimize the available surface area.
